How to add Greenhouse jobs to WordPress (3 ways compared)

This guide is for teams that hire through Greenhouse and run their website on WordPress. There are three common ways to show your Greenhouse jobs there: link to Greenhouse’s hosted job board, embed that board on a WordPress page, or import each job as a WordPress page with a plugin.

Greenhouse describes its own options in its careers page integration guide. Its advice for getting started: “we recommend starting with the simplest option. You can always change your integration option at a later time.” Below are the setup steps for each way, a side-by-side table, and who each one suits.

1. Link to Greenhouse’s hosted job board

Every Greenhouse job board has a hosted address, such as https://job-boards.greenhouse.io/yourcompany (older boards use boards.greenhouse.io). Greenhouse hosts the job list, a page for every job and the application form. Greenhouse rates this option “Easiest”, with a time commitment of “Less than 1 hour”.

How to set it up in WordPress

1. In Greenhouse, make sure your job board is live and copy its address.
2. In WordPress, add a Careers item to your main menu that links to that address. In a block theme, edit the Navigation block under Appearance → Editor; in a classic theme, use Appearance → Menus.
3. Optionally, add a “See open roles” button on your About or Home page that points to the same address.

What you get

You manage everything in Greenhouse, and there is nothing to maintain in WordPress. Greenhouse also looks after search engines for these pages: in its words, “Job posts on Greenhouse Recruiting automatically include basic metadata so Google can display your job posts in search results more easily” (Greenhouse: job post visibility on Google for Jobs).

Visitors who click Careers move from your site to Greenhouse’s, and the job pages live at Greenhouse’s address rather than yours.

2. Embed the Greenhouse job board on a WordPress page

If you want the board on your own careers page, Greenhouse offers an embed. In its words, this option “uses an iFrame (a website loaded within another webpage) to embed your Greenhouse-hosted job board directly on your careers page” (Greenhouse: embed a job board on your career site). Candidates browse and apply without leaving your page, and the board uses the logo, formatting and application questions you set in Greenhouse.

How to embed it in WordPress

Greenhouse’s article walks through three steps. Here is how they map to WordPress:

1. Configure the board in Greenhouse. Go to Configure > Job boards and posts, select the board, then Style and customization to set what candidates see.
2. Copy the embed code. On the same board, open Dev center and scroll to Embed code. It has two parts: a container element and a script tag, with your job board token in it.
3. Add the container to your careers page. In WordPress, edit your Careers page, add a Custom HTML block where the board should appear, and paste the container element.
4. Add the script. Greenhouse asks for it “at the bottom of your page’s HTML </body> tag”. In WordPress, that usually means your theme’s footer or a plugin that adds code to the footer.
5. Point Greenhouse at your page. Back in Dev center, enter your careers page address in the Job board URL field, press Enter and choose Update tracking links to the URL below, so Greenhouse’s links send candidates to your page.

Greenhouse estimates the embed takes “between an hour and a day”.

What you get

The board and each job open on your careers page, with the job’s ID added to the address as a ?gh_jid= parameter. The page around the board is yours: your menu, header and footer. The job text and application form inside the frame are served from Greenhouse, so their look is set in Greenhouse rather than by your WordPress theme. Greenhouse notes that for “deeper control over the job list layout, filtering experience, or the overall UI, an API-driven integration option may be a better fit.”

3. Import Greenhouse jobs as WordPress pages with a plugin

The third way copies each job into WordPress, so it becomes a real page on your site. Greenhouse supports this through its Job Board API, and its integration guide lists several API-driven options with estimates from “2-4 days” to “5-8 days” of development. A plugin gives you the same result without the build.

Using Greenhouse Jobs for WordPress

Greenhouse Jobs for WordPress is the plugin this site sells. It is made by w4dev, not by Greenhouse. In WordPress, you enter your board token (the last part of your job board address) under Greenhouse → Settings, and the first import starts within about a minute. • Every job gets a page on your domain, such as yoursite.com/jobs/senior-designer-4012345/, with the full list at yoursite.com/jobs/.

• Jobs stay in sync. Every 30 minutes by default, new jobs appear, changed jobs update and closed jobs come down.

This needs a Job Board API key, which you create yourself in Greenhouse; without one, the apply button sends candidates to the job’s Greenhouse page.
• Pay ranges show on the job page when you publish them with the job in Greenhouse, and go into the job’s structured data too. One setting hides them.
• Switching from the embed keeps your links. Addresses with ?gh_jid=, such as those in search results, old shares and Greenhouse’s tracking links, redirect to the job’s page on your site, and a gh_src source is still credited when the candidate applies.
• New jobs can reach Google sooner, with the optional Google Indexing API connection.
• No developer needed. Place the job list with a block or a shortcode, and it follows your theme.

Greenhouse’s hosted page for the same job carries its own metadata for Google. When two pages describe the same job, Google chooses which one to show. No plugin controls that choice.
